Tyne Tunnel
Client: Bouygues Construction
Tyne Tunnel is a two lane vehicular toll tunnel running under the River Tyne near Newcastle. The original tunnel was opened in 1967. The new tunnel and refurbishment of the old was a £139 million scheme with construction starting in 2008. The opening of the newly constructed tunnel and refurb of original was completed in November 2011. Power Wholesale Ltd became the incumbent electrical material distributor during the duration of the project. They worked closely with Bouygues Construction, Balfour Beatty and a host of sub-contractors involved with the successful completion of both projects.
